By asking “what else could this parking space be?”, Park_ingOttawa inevitably also asks the question “what about the cars that currently use this space?”. One answer is to reduce the number of cars on the road and the demand for on-street parking. This won’t happen over night but initiatives such as Car-free Day allow us to start imagining and experiencing the effect of less cars on the road.
Car Free Days aim to be fun, free events encouraging people to get out of their cars and run, walk, cycle or take public transit. The central vision of Car Free Day is urban mobility that is not dependent on the private automobile.
International Car Free Day (CFD) is celebrated every Sept. 22.
